Murmo Notes is a voice note app for iPhone and Apple Watch. It is still in development and has not been released.

Getting started

What devices and system versions do I need?

iPhone needs iOS 26 or later; Apple Watch needs watchOS 26 or later. You can start a recording on either one. Transcription happens on the iPhone, so the watch is used paired with an iPhone. The iPhone also works fully on its own.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Murmo Notes has no accounts and no sign-in.

Which permissions will it ask for the first time?

Recording uses the microphone. The first time the app writes to Reminders or to Calendar, it asks once for access to each. Face ID is requested only if you turn on Lock with Face ID in settings. What each one is used for is explained in the privacy policy.

Recording and transcription

I recorded on the watch, but nothing showed up on the phone right away?

When the phone is near the watch, the recording is sent over by itself and transcribed in the background, even with the phone locked. Two situations make it slower:

  • The phone is not nearby. The recording stays on the watch and is sent once you are back near the phone. If it still has not gone across, try opening the app on the watch once.
  • The first recording after the app has just been updated. The phone has to get the speech model ready first, so this one is slower than usual; if background time runs out before it finishes, it continues the next time you open the app on the phone.

A recording on the watch is deleted only after the phone confirms it has received it, so there is no need to record again.

The recording I just made is gone?

Recordings shorter than 2 seconds are discarded automatically. Also, if nobody speaks from start to finish, the recording stops by itself after 30 seconds and is not saved.

Why did the recording stop by itself?

After 30 seconds in a row with nobody speaking, the recording stops automatically; what was said before that is saved and transcribed as usual. If someone nearby keeps talking, a television is on, or the surroundings are noisy, the app cannot tell the difference and will not stop by itself, so you need to tap stop.

What if the transcript is wrong?

The original recording is always kept. You can open that recording and listen again, or tap Transcribe Again. Proper nouns such as names of people and products are the easiest to mishear: in Settings → Custom Words, enter what was heard and what it should be, and both past and future recordings will be corrected accordingly. To see the transcript before tidying, tap Show Original in that recording.

The list shows “Nothing heard”?

The recording was too quiet and the app judged that nobody was speaking, so it was not given to the speech model (which sometimes invents words when fed background noise). The recording is still there and can be played back.

Reminders and events

I said what I needed to do. Why did it not become a reminder?

Only things said clearly are written automatically: you said “remind me”, or both the time and the task are clear. If the time is not clear, or it is hard to tell whether it is something to do, nothing is written automatically; it is listed under that recording for you to confirm, and is written only when you tap Add. Also, repeating items (such as “every night at ten”) are currently only shown, not written.

It wrote something wrong. How do I undo it?

Open the recording. Every item that was written has Undo next to it; tapping it removes the item from Reminders or Calendar. An item you have undone will not be written back automatically.

The Highlight or Remind I tapped while recording landed on the next sentence?

Which sentence you tapped on is estimated from how far through the recording you were, not located word by word, so with several sentences in one recording it can be off by one. If a reminder was created wrongly, tap Undo. It is most accurate when one recording covers one thing.

I refused access to Reminders or Calendar earlier and now want to turn it on?

In the iPhone’s Settings, find Murmo Notes and turn on Reminders or Calendar. Without access the app does not write to them, and tapping Add in the app also tells you where to turn it on.

Data

Where are my recordings stored? Are they uploaded?

They are stored on your iPhone, and the app does not connect to any server. More detail is in the privacy policy.

How do I delete my data?

You can delete recordings one by one in the app. Deleting Murmo Notes from your iPhone removes everything the app has stored. Content already written into Reminders and Calendar is not deleted along with it and has to be deleted in those two apps.

When reporting a problem, it helps to say which iPhone and watch system versions you have, whether you recorded on the watch or on the phone, and roughly when it happened. There is no need to send the recording or the transcript.
